Mobile routers do not come to our review so often, but by themselves they do not lose their relevance, especially since the beginning of spring, when some users move out of town, where broadband access is still rare. Therefore, it was interesting for us to test the hero of today's article - the TP-Link M7200 mobile router.
The mobile router comes in a small cardboard box, inside which you can find the device itself, various documentation, adapters for Micro SIM and Nano SIM, a removable 2000 mAh battery and a USB-A - microUSB cable for charging.
TP-Link M7200 is made in a black plastic case with a texture and glossy inserts. The latter add some style to the device, but they start picking up scratches pretty quickly. The router is very compact (94x56.7x19.8 mm) and lightweight, so it can easily fit in a backpack pocket or in any of the niches in the car.
Of the controls, only one power button is provided. To install the battery and SIM card, you need to open the back cover of the device. There you will also find a sticker with the factory settings of the Wi-Fi network.
What really pleased me about the router is the ease of setup. It will take you just a couple of minutes to get a ready-made Wi-Fi network. First you need to insert a SIM card, then install the battery and hold down the power button for a few seconds. The router will signal its activity with three indicators: Wi-Fi status, Internet connection and charge level.
If your operator's SIM card does not need additional configuration, then after about 30 seconds after switching on, you can connect to Wi-Fi and start using the Internet. You can change the name of the Wi-Fi network, password, as well as access other settings via the tpMiFi mobile application or via the web interface at http://tplinkmifi.net/.
The application has a simple and straightforward UI, it will not be difficult to deal with it. You can set a limit on data usage for all users or for specific clients, activate high power saving mode, view SMS messages, etc. There are also no complaints about the web interface - a large number of settings are provided, visually everything is done with high quality. Tp-Link for 4G Wi-Fi
TP-Link M7200 is an LTE-Advanced 2.4GHz router. Supported networks list:
The device provides data transfer rates up to 150 Mbps for upload and up to 50 Mbps for upload. Supported wireless standards: IEEE 802.11b / g / n. The router is capable of simultaneously serving up to 10 connected devices. The battery capacity is enough for about 8 hours of continuous use, plus you can always connect a power bank to recharge.
A Wi-Fi router can be useful if you often work with a laptop outside your home / office or go out of town. In such cases, a wireless network from a broadband Internet is not always available, so a mobile router can come to the rescue. Here it is necessary to take into account the frequency of such a need, because for isolated cases, you can distribute the Internet from a smartphone. Another mobile router can be useful for distributing the Internet in the car. This option is suitable, for example, for parents who constantly take their children to school / workout so that their children can watch YouTube or play an online game on the road. Also, a mobile router can come in handy when traveling. You can buy one SIM card for several people and distribute the Internet to everyone.
As for the TP-Link M7200 in operation, there were no complaints about it as such. The router works stably when several devices are connected to it. Connection speed depends on your mobile operator and the location where you are. In my case, the 4G Internet from Kyivstar gave an average of 12-15 Mbit / s per download, which, in principle, is enough for several users to watch the same YouTube at the same time. The same SIM-card in a smartphone gave a similar speed result in Speedtest. In a one-room apartment, the Wi-Fi network coverage was sufficient for the entire area (~ 40 sq. M). I also note that in the settings of the router, you can select different degrees of Wi-Fi signal strength, so there should be no problems with coverage.
